Through all my life, I've been wanting things without putting in the hard work nor the sacrifice. I wanted A+ grades - without the hard work or sacrifice. Granted, I got good grades through high school but most of my higher education has been filled with failures. Now I want to reduce my weight but I don't put in the necessary hard work (exercising) or sacrifice (saying no to certain foods). I want to get healthy but I don't put in the necessary hard work and sacrifice.

This morning I was absolutely fed up of life but reading this article has shown me something I've been denying for ages. I NEED TO PUT IN HARD WORK to see the results I want! Thank you so much. I know exactly what I have to do.

David

Glad you're enjoying these lessons. As with all interpretation, context is the key. The two lessons fit together when the words and ideas are heard in their context. However, if you want to join them together, then your option is fine. However, living a margin-less life is no more spiritual than a margined one. Personally, I'd opt for margin in life while expecting the best of myself.

Hope that helps!

Hi,
I am enjoying these writings and getting a lot out of them. However in continuity, when you suggests we assume something will go wrong (Forget being on time), perhaps as not not to disturb the prior lessons of faith in outcome (Don't imagine negative results) you could modify this statement to account for the unforeseen as opposed to using the term "wrong" in "better to assume something will go wrong".

Forgive me in advance if I misunderstand,

Julie, thanks for your encouragement! And yes, I fool most people. But part of what drives me is the desire to make a difference in people's lives--which, by definition means becoming what they need me to be. But, if left to my own, I'd be a hermit, reading books and learning something new every day.

Hi Bruce,
That was a very good article...it caught my interest because you mentioned a former career and I thought of CCC...not sure if you meant that, but I know we had to take those tests on staff. You have great insight. You being an introvert definitely threw me, though. I liked what you said about working on things that aren't natural...like being social, conversing, getting out of your comfort zone, so apparently you worked on these things because I thought you were an extrovert!! God bless you! Thanks for your insights!

Hello Bruce, Thanks for making these blogs public! My family and I have been enjoying and impressed with your "sage advice" (to quote Michael). Thanks too to Verne Harnish who also let me know of these posts.
My wife and I have two daughters, Janelle 18 and Alicia nearly 15 - so again a big thanks - these letters are right on target. We've been using them as a basis for our family devotions and all enjoying the discussions that have followed.
