Day in the Life of a Stay at Home Mom
I am excited to share with you a Day in the Life and give you an idea what a stay at home mom’s day could look like.
Every day is different. We have good days. We have bad days. Sometimes we have Stroller Strides to attend or a playdate scheduled, but today we didn’t have anything except a grocery run so I wanted to record how our day played out and share it with all of you. The saying “the days are long but the years are short” is so true for mom life and I love that I get the opportunity to be home with my girls each day; but kids can be exhausting and certainly make each day an adventure.
Morning Routine as a Mom
4:00 Woke up to Izzy next to my bed (pulled her into bed with me so she could fall back asleep).
5:00 Woke up to Ellie crying and stumbled my way to her room and nursed her back to sleep.
6:15 Woke up to Ellie again and nursed her but she was awake for the day. Got her dressed, changed into my workout clothes, and went downstairs.
6:45 HIIT workout from Fitness Blender.
7:15 Drank lots of water and took the garbage out to the curb. So much garbage when you have kids (two kids in diapers that is).
7:45 Izzy is awake. I made her oatmeal and myself a protein shake.
8:15 Got Izzy dressed for the day and put Ellie down for a nap.
8:40 Took a shower and got dressed while Izzy watched Daniel Tiger on her tablet.
9:00 Enjoyed a cup of coffee. I used to love using a cute mug each day but am now in the habit of using my awesome new to-go thermos my husband got me for my birthday. Coffee stays hot all day!
9:15 Ellie wakes up. Start a load of laundry and play with the kids on the floor.
9:40 Leave to go pick up groceries at Walmart.
10:45 Put Ellie down for a nap.
11:00 Switch load of laundry and straighten up around the house picking up toys and reorganizing the kitchen. Am I the only one who’s kitchen counter never can stay clear?!
11:25 Go outside with Izzy for a little bit (she loves being outdoors).
Afternoon Routine as a Mom
12:15 Make lunch for Izzy and I. Today she is having pretzels and hummus, frozen peas, and some berries. She drinks unsweetened original almond milk at all meals. I enjoyed leftovers which was chick pea curry I made the night before. I also ate a turkey tortilla roll up and some animal crackers.
12:30 Ellie wakes up and we all head outside to color with chalk and enjoy the sunshine.
1:30 Quiet time for Izzy in her room. Today I spent an hour trying to get Ellie down for her afternoon nap but to no avail she was not having it.
2:45 Everyone is up and we head out on a walk so Izzy can ride her bike and we can all get more fresh air.
3:30 Ellie goes down for a nap. Izzy chooses Mulan to watch while I finish planning out my workout for my class I teach the next morning.
4:20 Ellie wakes up and we play on the floor.
Evening Routine as a Mom
5:00 Hubby comes home. I start making dinner.
5:40 Eat dinner and then clean up while Hubby watches the kids.
7:00 Bath time and bed time routine!
8:00 – Ellie wakes up but goes back to sleep with her binky and lovey.
8:15 I worked on this blog entry.
9:00 Spent some time with Jesus and read my last chapter in the book “Hope Unfolding” by Becky Thompson (awesome book about motherhood).
9:30 Bedtime for Mommy and Daddy!
11:30 Ellie woke up to eat but went right back to sleep (yay!).
I am exhausted all over again just writing this out lol. Sometimes staying home most of the day is hard because having something to do breaks up the day and gives the kids something new to see and experience. Today wasn’t easy because Ellie did not nap well and I am running on little sleep but the cuddles, kisses, and smiles make it all worth it!
Not noted in this timeline was the countless diapers changed, toddler tantrums, toys that needed to be picked up, and possibly a few other mom life moments that would make this post much too long.
Here are a few of our Favorites we enjoyed today.

Each day with you both is an adventure while we enjoy life together and you both learn new things. Even though I may be tired and have to take a ‘mommy moment’ sometimes, I love you both with my whole heart. You won’t remember these days with me, but my prayer is when you look back and read this you will see a glimpse of my mom life with you. Being a mom is the hardest and best thing all at the same time. You are both so young right now, but I hope God blesses you both with the opportunity to be a mom and experience the love and joy it brings. On those days where you are tired or overwhelmed from mom life remember you are amazing and doing your best!
I promise to do my best each day to be the mom you need. To comfort you when you need it but also to discipline you when necessary. Right now I am able to be at home with you both and I want to make the most of this opportunity: teach you new things and make sure you see Jesus at the center of our family.
Your exhausted but thankful Mommy
